Who we are

This website belongs to Maiden Built, a carpentry business founded and led by Carmen Duenzl. We respect your privacy and handle your information carefully, in line with generally accepted Australian privacy practice. If you have any question about your information, email hello@maidenbuilt.com.au.

What we collect, and how

We only collect what you choose to give us. There is no account to create and no login.

• What you type into the enquiry form: your name and email address, your phone number if you give it, the suburb the work is in, the type of project, a description of the work, a budget range and a timeframe, and optionally your preferred contact method and any access or site notes.
• Photos or plans you attach: optional, up to 4 files and 3.5 MB in total.
• Anything you send us directly: whatever you include when you email or call.
• Limited technical information: when you use the site or submit the form, basic technical details such as your IP address are processed to keep the site working, to confirm you are a person rather than a bot, and to limit abuse of the form.
• Basic website analytics: we use an analytics service to see how the website is being used: which pages are visited, roughly how long people stay, whether they arrived from a search engine or a link, and the general type of device and browser. This uses cookies or similar technologies stored by your browser. The analytics reports available to us do not include your name, contact details or the information entered into an enquiry form, and they are not used for targeted advertising. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies if you prefer.

While you are filling in the enquiry form, your answers are saved in your own browser so you do not lose them if you navigate away. That draft stays on your device, never includes attached files, and is cleared once your enquiry is sent.

Please do not attach documents containing information you would not want sent by email, such as identity documents or financial records. We do not ask for them and do not need them to quote your work.

Why we use it

When you submit an enquiry, we use the information to assess the project, respond to you and keep appropriate business records. If your enquiry becomes a job, we use it to plan, quote and carry out that work. We do not sell your information, and we do not add you to a mailing list or use your enquiry for unrelated marketing without your permission.

Website analytics are used only to understand how the site is being used and to improve it, for example which pages are useful and where people lose their way. They are not used for targeted advertising.

Who else may handle it

We use trusted service providers to run the website and to get your enquiry to us. They may process your information only as far as they need to in order to provide their service to us. The categories are:

• website hosting providers;
• website-security and spam-prevention providers;
• website analytics providers;
• email-delivery and business email providers;
• professional advisers, insurers or authorities, where we are required or permitted by law to disclose information.

Some of these providers are based outside Australia, or store and process information outside Australia, most commonly in the United States. By using this website or sending an enquiry you acknowledge that your information may be handled overseas, where privacy laws may differ from those in Australia.

How it is protected, and how long we keep it

The website has no customer database. Your enquiry is not saved to a website database, and any photos or plans you attach are sent with the email rather than kept in separate file storage on the site.

Once sent, your enquiry exists as an email in the Maiden Built mailbox, and we keep it for as long as we need it to respond to you and to keep ordinary business records. Copies may also remain for a period with our email provider. If your enquiry becomes a job, the details may be retained with the usual paperwork for that job.

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including a security check on the enquiry form and access controls on the mailbox. No website or email system can be completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Access, correction and deletion

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@maidenbuilt.com.au and we will action it within a reasonable time. If we cannot delete something because we need it for business records, we will tell you why.

Questions or complaints

If you have a privacy question, or you are concerned about how your information has been handled, email hello@maidenbuilt.com.au and we will look into it and come back to you. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can seek advice from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

If the way we handle information changes, this page will be updated to match what we actually do, and the date at the top will change.
